How to Write a Killer Post both in terms of SEO and Readers

Most of the bloggers are confused in between writing for search engines and readers. While readers require a fresh keyword free content without keywords the content wouldn't be listed in search engines and hence, no traffic would come up.
So, it's a great confusion on how to write a post that rocks both in terms of SEO and Readers. But, a
mix-match post is the perfect one and here are few points to keep in mind to draft a perfect post.

SEO and Readers

Headlines

Make the most of the headlines. It's a must to insert your main keyword in the headline and that doesn't hurt the reader too as the boldness symbolises something unique and important. But make sure, you don't just ONLY INCLUDE KEYWORD in the headline but make the headlines interesting too.

For Example, if the keyword is "Define Cloud Computing" the perfect headline would be

7 Different Ways to Define Cloud Computing

If we would have gone for just the keyword, it would have remained just for the search engines to rank but would have surely lost the interest of the reader. So, it's important to the keep the readers in the mind too.

Learn from the Review Sites

There a lot to learn from Web 2.0 and review sites. People make thousands of $$$$ on them using just a single post (specially in case of Squidoo lens) . If you checkout review and web 2.0 sites like Hubpages, Ukritic , just notice the writing style of featured authors. There posts are so perfect that they rank in the search engines and they convert. By convert, I mean people read them and actually follow the advice of the author.

Select a Ratio

I have seen pro bloggers do this. They write a post for search engines and another for readers. So, the SEO optimised post achieve the rankings and bring in the traffic and the post written for readers impress them hence, decreasing the bounce rate adding to the following of the blog.
So, select a 50:50 ratio if you’re a mid blogger, a 75:25 ratio if you’re a newbie blogger and 25:75 if you’re a pro blogger (Ratio of SEO Posts : Ratio of Posts for Readers)

Readers Come First

If you're blog is already getting a  decent amount of traffic, you should focus more on content to readers. Remember Readers come first as the social metrics matter a lot nowadays. Readers alone can share and jump up the rankings of your post in search engines.

Google +1s, tweets are enough to rank high. If you checkout the top 10 rankings of Google for any search query, it has given much more emphasis on Social Metrics. So, write for Readers and Search Engine Rankings will automatically follow if readers like the content.

Social Media Marketing Definition

Social media marketing is a term that is increasingly being used by SEO experts. But what does it exactly mean? This is the process of advertising via social network sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube and Twitter amongst others. By making use of the social facet of the internet, social media marketing will enable you to link and interact at a much more enhanced personal level compared to conventional marketing techniques.

Social media marketing strategies include creating a blog for your startup business, creating a Facebook or YouTube account and attaching social media handles (i.e. Twitter and Google +1) at the bottom of every article posted on the web.

Types of Social Media Marketing

The following are the different types of social media marketing that you can use to increase your presence online:

Social

One of the easiest types of social media marketing is tagging articles as well as blog submissions for every entry and then allowing for voting on various social news websites, for example, Digg. This form of social media marketing can be automated with ease, thereby making it easy to utilize. Social news is recommended for companies as it makes it easy for them to endorse a blog with extreme ease.

Blogs

Blogs have for a long time been utilized as extensions of conventional media. Most people have utilized blogs when it comes to reviewing products and services of a company. Before buying a digital product, most consumers like to read reviews posted by various consumers who have used such a product. Consequently, you can use blogs to write reviews of products and services being provided by your company.

Social Networking

The key to increasing your presence online is having an account with various social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. There are millions of people on social networks, thereby making it a useful tool to apply in your marketing strategy. The type of social networking site used will hinge on the kind of product that you would like to promote. For instance, if you are aiming to endorse a particular play, you can utilize Flixter other than MySpace to endorse it.

Social networking sites offer one a channel through which he or she can get the word out on a specific product or service while at the same time interacting with his or her potential customers. A majority of small and startup businesses are embracing social networking sites as a way of endearing themselves to customers.

Twitter is one of the social networking sites that have increased in popularity over the last couple of years. The simplicity of Twitter is what makes it one of the most preferred social networking sites.

Whereas Google has for a long time been used to increase one’s ranking on the internet, the emergence of social networking sites have also proved to be beneficial tools. It is for this reason that Google recently added to its growing list of products Google +1. This is a social networking site akin to Facebook and Twitter that increases your ranking every time a new user is added to your list.

7 Killer Tips to Avoid Google Penguin Algorithm Penalty

Bloggers were not even started to recover from the impact of Google panda update and Google again bombarded a brand new update over them - The Google Penguin Update. The Google's Penguin algorithm is released to restrict web spam and to forcefully encourage the webmasters and bloggers to follow the Webmaster's quality guidelines decided by the Google Spam control Team.

Google penguin update have hit very hard to the maximum webmasters. Now the question arises in everyone's mind "How to Survive in Penguin updates?”.  However, very few of the webmasters actually have proper tips to share.

I have researched on this topic and gathered some useful information over it that will possibly answer the questions in everyone’s mind.

Avoid Using Invisible Text:

If you present the information on your site in such a way that it looks different to visitors as compared to Google crawlers then you will be surely in the trouble. Google takes serious actions on Invisible text spam. Invisible text spam includes using font color same as the background color so that the text will be invisible to visitors but it will be crawled by the Google crawlers. Also Invisible text spam includes fooling search engines by having hidden text behind the images, hiding text by using CSS tricks or using extremely small font size on a webpage.

Use proper keyword density:

Don’t ever stuff your website pages with excessive keywords. The normal keyword density should be about 3% however being on safe side we should always try to maintain keyword density bellow 2%. Avoid bad practices like keyword stuffing, cloaking or other on page spam as Google crawlers can easily identify such practices and could launch a penalty against your weblog.

Avoid Sending Automated Queries to Google through Automated tools:
Some black hatters use various SEO tools to send automated queries to Google in order to get bulk work done in short period of time to boost their site's ranking in SERP's. Sending Automated queries to Google not only will result in banning your site in SERP's but also you could be banned permanently from all Google services.

Avoid duplicated content:

The Google panda update must have been solved the duplicate content issue as the webmasters have started working on having unique content on their websites after Google panda algorithm launch. Duplicate content also related to similar WebPages on same blog, subdomains and domains.

Avoid malicious behavior of your Web Pages:

Make sure that the WebPages on your sites should not behave maliciously i.e. phishing and unauthorized installation of viruses, trojans or any potentially harmful content that may hurt your visitors and their PCs. Google takes very harsh actions on such websites, and penalizes them very badly.

Say No to Black Hat SEO Link building:

Google penguin algorithm is launched to reduce web spam so if you are using black hat SEO techniques to build some quick links then Google will surely penalize you. The Motive of Google behind launching Penguin update is to reduce web-spam by penalizing the sites having spam baklinks and to reward the high quality websites with higher rankings in SERP's.

Quality content:

Write for your visitors and not for the search engines, keep the quality of your content at its pick and the Google will start loving your site.

These tips will help you to survive against Google penguin update and will help you to get a boost in search engine rankings for your websites.

Four SEO Mistakes a Web Developer May Make

Generally, there are numerous types of websites based on their achievements.
  • Some have high ranking in search engine result pages (SERPs) yet have low conversion rate.
  • Some have low ranking, which means lesser traffic and low conversion rate.
  • Some have high ranking and fantastic analytics data.

So, which is your site here? Is it the first, second, or third?

If it is the latter, this indicates that you are optimising your pages effectively. But if it is the second, this means that you may be applying the wrong strategies. Now, the scenario is much worse if your website is the first type because this indicates that you may be practising “black hat” search engine optimisation (SEO) techniques.

The term usually refers to unethical Web practices such as breaching search engine regulations and creating a poor experience for the users. The latter may include irrelevant and uninformative content, sluggish page loading speed, and difficult navigation.

Before Google launched its Panda and Penguin updates, those webmasters who have been applying bad methods have landed on top SERPs. But after a series of algorithm changes, which started in early 2011, they have catapulted to the bottom of search results.

If you have yet to work on your site, you need to avoid certain SEO strategies.

So, which tactics do search engines consider unethical? Here are four of the most prevalent.

BLACK HAT SEO PRACTICES

1. Cloaking

You must never show separate content or links to search spiders and users. Additionally, you should not display a hypertext markup language (HTML) formatted page to algorithms, while presenting a webpage full of Flash graphics or images to the people.

If you go against these standards, search engines may see your website as “spammy” or deceptive. When this happens, they may lower your ranking or remove your URL entirely from their index.

What to do instead:
Knowing that your portal contains certain elements, which spiders cannot crawl (e.g. images, JavaScript, and other rich media files), you can follow these ideas.

  • Create alt text or brief image descriptions for users who have the images on their browsers turned off or for those who have screen readers.
  • Come up with a text code and tag for JavaScript content to allow easy indexing and crawling.

2. Keyword stuffing

You must not load a certain webpage with too many targeted words in the effort of manipulating your ranking in SERPs. If you breach this guideline, the most probable result is bad user experience, which can affect your bounce and conversion rate.

What to do instead:
Before anything else, conduct keyword research to help you create a list of ideal high-ranking search terms.

Afterwards, concentrate on producing content with following characteristics:
  • Original
  • Fresh
  • Useful
  • Informative
  • Compelling

At the same time, you must integrate relevant search phrases in the following areas:
  • Meta description
  • URL
  • Title
  • Article body

Finally, review the page for keyword misuse or excessive repetition.

3. Link schemes

You should not sell or buy links, connect to spam sites, and engage in excessive reciprocal linking. While doing these greatly increases your backlinks, such methods can affect your website’s relevance and quality. In turn, your site’s bad image will put it in the bottom of search results.

What to do instead:
According to Google Webmaster Guidelines,

“the best way to get other sites to create relevant links to yours is to create unique, relevant content that can quickly gain popularity in the Internet community”.

The more you can present valuable and compelling information, the higher likely of a credible and authoritative websites linking to your site. You must ensure this aspect since getting significant and high-quality inbound links increases your page rank.

4. Too much Flash

You must not depend heavily on this element for making your webpages visually appealing. This applies mostly if you integrate the images or graphics on the homepage or embed these with keywords.

If you violate this rule, all the spiders will see is a blank webpage or a few text, which is not good for your ranking given that search engines prefer websites with relevant and informative content. Additionally, placing too much Flash can slow down your page loading speed.

What to do instead:
One simple solution is to lessen image file sizes. You must also avoid excessive use of Flash graphics. And, when it comes to your website’s homepage content, it is best to combine text and related pictures to make it more appealing enticing the users to browse through the inner pages.

So, there you have four of the top SEO mistakes and their respective solutions. Other than these, you can find several blunders, which greatly affect your ranking in search results.

Additionally, you can come across other appropriate optimisation strategies. And, by “appropriate”, it refers to ethical tactics. But how do you know if you are using decent methods?

You will know that you are not breaching any regulation by referring to search engine guidelines while optimising your website. And, in the process of doing so, you must analyse your website’s performance by using analytics tools.

This way, you can tell whether your techniques have been effective or not. If it is the latter, you can develop better methods to earn more credibility, higher ranking in SERPs, and more quality traffic.
